1. Jack-up

Use And Feature:

Jack-up platform is a mobile drilling platform that is used in shallow waters depths up to 400 feet (120 m), although some designs can go to 550 feet (170 m) depth for drilling and exploration of production wells.

Specifications:

A self-contained combination drilling rig and floating barge, fitted with long support legs that can be raised or lowered independently of each other. The jackup, as it is known informally, is towed onto location with its legs up and the barge section floating on the water. Upon arrival at the drilling location, the legs are jacked down onto the seafloor, preloaded to securely drive them into the seabottom, and then all three legs are jacked further down. Since the legs have been preloaded and will not penetrate the seafloor further, this jacking down of the legs has the effect of raising the jacking mechanism, which is attached to the barge and drilling package.


2.Semi Submersible

Use And Feature:

Semi-submersible platform: The floating platform has hull (columns and pontoons) that, when flooded with seawater, cause the pontoons to submerge to a predetermined depth. Semi Submersibles are generally used for offshore Deepwater drilling operations with water depth ranging from 600 meters - 3,600 meters and are deployed in areas such as the Gulf of Mexico and South America.

Specifications:

The platforms are generally kept in place by the use of dynamic positioning (DP) system. Semi Submersibles have advanced capabilities to drill in ultra deep waters.


3. Tension leg platform (TLP)

A tension-leg platform (TLP) or extended tension leg platform (ETLP) is a vertically moored floating structure normally used for the offshore production of oil or gas, and is particularly suited for water depths greater than 300 metres (about 1000 ft) and less than 1500 metres (about 4900 ft).

The platform is permanently moored by means of tethers or tendons grouped at each of the structure's corners. A group of tethers is called a tension leg. A feature of the design of the tethers is that they have relatively high axial stiffness (low elasticity), such that virtually all vertical motion of the platform is eliminated. This allows the platform to have the production wellheads on deck (connected directly to the subsea wells by rigid risers), instead of on the seafloor. This allows a simpler well completion and gives better control over the production from the oil or gas reservoir, and easier access for downhole intervention operations.


4.Modular Drilling Rig

Use And Feature:

Modular drilling rigs are normally installed on offshore wellhead and production platforms that require drilling operation during part of the design life. It is configured to be easy to install and relocate from platform to platform.  Because of this self-erecting bootstrap type mast is used, and all modules are designed for easy transportation, installation, and hook-up. It is a complete system that includes all necessary components to perform drilling operation.  These components are drilling equipment set (DES), drilling support module (DSM), power module, and living quarters.  This type of drilling rigs can be used on fixed platform, tension leg platform, and tender drilling barge.  They are used for drilling production wells at the beginning of the field development, performing side track drilling and workover operation during production.


5.Production Facilities

FPSO

Use And Feature:

FPSO’s consist of large floating structures, equipped with floating storage and processing facilities. These platforms are moored to a location for extended periods, and do not actually drill for oil or gas but instead store and then transfer to tankers or to shore.


Flotel

Use And Feature:

A floating hotel, refers to the installation of living quarters on top of semi-submersible platforms. Flotels are used as accommodation of working people in the offshore oil industry.
